A new 16-core processor from Hygon, the Chinese chipmaker that uses AMD’s first-generation Zen architecture, just appeared on Geekbench.
The Hygon C86-4G (or C86 3490) was tested on the Hygon XHVTBST board with the open Killin 2.0 operating system (Linux-based).
The US embargo has prevented chipmakers from shipping high-performance devices to China, so Hygon still cannot use the Zen+ or newer architectures.
Zen 2 architecture marks a turning point in AMD’s design with MCM (multi-chip packaging) technology, separating the processing core and I/O controller.
